Chain conveyors are generally closed type conveyors. Material is loaded into the vessel from any point of the conveyor and is conveyed along the chute by scraper wings. The discharge of the transported material can be done from any or multiple points along the vessel. If discharge is to be done from multiple points, manual or pneumatic valves are used.

Chain conveyors can carry material simultaneously in their lower and upper sections and, if necessary, material can be carried in opposite directions at the same time. Single or double chains are used as traction elements in chain conveyors.

Chain conveyors are used to carry various micronized, granular and free-flowing materials. They are not suitable for transporting fragile, moist and sticky materials.

The reasons why chain conveyors are preferred can be summarized as follows: Simplicity of design and durability of the structure, ability to carry material in two directions in the upper and lower sections, easy loading and unloading from the desired points along the conveyor.
